BPX-L015 is the standard large rectangular size stamping plate that Born Pretty store sells. It has 6 full nail images along the bottom row, and 17 smaller panda images perfect for making decals for accent nails.

The mani

I decided that making decals would be the best way to go, so that I could paint my pandas white. I wanted to put them over a pastel background, so I sponged a gradient to make it a little more interesting.

I made the decals on my Ubermat, then cut them to size and stuck them over the gradient once they had dried.

What I used

  • Barry M Frosted Cupcakes Strawberries & Cream (pastel pink with iridescent flakies)
  • Barry M Frosted Cupcakes Blue Velvet (pastel blue with iridescent flakies)
  • makeup sponge
  • Uberchic Ubermat
  • NYC Grand Central Station (clear polish used as decal base)
  • MoYou London Black Knight (black stamping polish)
  • MoYou London White Knight (white stamping polish)
  • Creative Shop large stamper
  • *Born Pretty Store Panda BPX-L015 stamping plate
  • liquid latex

Verdict

I struggled a bit with this mani. My BPS clear stamper, which I usually rely on for everything, just wouldn’t pick up any of the images off this plate. I had more luck with my Creative Shop stamper, which is stickier, but I still wasn’t entirely happy. I tried scraping at various angles, and different pressures, but nothing seemed to help. The full nail images were harder to pick up than the individual pandas.

Oh, and if anyone was contemplating sponging a gradient with the Frosted Cupcakes, can I give these words of advice? Don’t do it! The flakies make such a mess! The polishes are also quite sheer, so it takes a lot of sponging to build up the colour.

Overall, not my best work!

  1. These panda nails are so cute! That stamping plate is one I need to get and I love how you did the images over that base.
