Hello folks! I’ve got a few reviews for Born Pretty Store to get through, so let’s get on with the first. Today I’m showing you the *Gold & Green Gradient Nail Foil (#38892), which is currently on sale for $0.99.

As you can see, the foil comes as a long (120cm!) strip which arrives rolled up in a little pot to keep it safe, as the colour comes off very easily on contact with just about anything.

How to use nail foil

Nail foil always works best over dark polish colours. I used two coats of Nails Inc Hanover Square as my base.

I already had some foil glue in my stash (unknown make, from a foil kit I was given as a present ages ago!). Born Pretty Store also sell *foil glue to go with the foils. Once my base was dry, I painted a thin coat of the glue over my nails. It starts out white, then dries clear once it is ready.

When the glue was dry, I laid the foil over my nail (shiny coloured side up) and rubbed it with a silicone hoof stick to cover all of the nail. The foil strip is then peeled off, leaving the shiny bit behind.

Normal top coats will spoil the look of the foil, making it wrinkle and dull. After a bit of research, I discovered that water based top coats should work ok. I also came across a reference to Unt peelable basecoat doing the same thing, so as I have a bottle of that, I tried it out.

The result

The nail foil was so shiny! It was actually a little too much for me (too shiny for this magpie) so I stamped over it to tone it down a little, without losing too much of the effect.

I used about 10cm of the foil roll, leaving plenty left for further manis. Plus the little scrappy bits can also be used for dry brush foil art, or patchwork nails. I really enjoyed using the foil, it was very easy to get a stunning result.

    1. Haha, can you imagine how addictive bubble wrap would be if it was shiny and sparkly too? It’s hard enough to put the stuff down as it is!
