Born Pretty Store Firework Nail Foil review

Hi! Today I have the final item that Born Pretty Store sent me to review, which is this *firework pattern holographic nail foil. Personally, I think it looks more flowers than fireworks, but never mind. So what do you get? The foil comes in a little screw top tub, and for $2.12 (currently on offer at $1.29) you receive a piece 1m x 4cm. That’s enough for a whole lot of nails!

The website has instructions for use: apply base coat, and base polish (dark colours work best) and then wait until almost dry before applying the foil to the nail and pressing down.

I applied two coats of Sally Hansen Night Watch (an inky blue jelly polish), and left it to dry for 10 mins or so. The instructions say that it should be dry but still soft enough to leave a fingerprint in.

I’d already cut fingernail sized sections of foil to use. Problem 1 – both sides of the foil look the same! The first one I put on upside down so the foil didn’t transfer. I figured out that scratching a spare corner of the foil told me which was the useful side. (If the pattern scratches off, that side goes on the nail). Once my foil was in place, I rubbed over each firework with the slanty end of an orange stick to help it transfer. Finally a coat of HK Girl Glisten & Glow topcoat seals everything in.

I did find that the holo vanished once the foil was on my nail – even before topcoat. But it is a pretty silver pattern, and it is very shiny.

I did find this foil a little bit fiddly to use, judging the correct point to use it took some trial and error. This was my third attempt at this review! If your polish isn’t dry enough it will stick to the foil and be lifted off your nail. As mentioned, figuring out which is the correct side to use is tricky. And it’s a shame that the holo vanished. I do like the end effect though! This was my first time ever using foil, and I’d like to experiment further.
