Hello! I’ve got another item from Born Pretty Store to review for you today, this time it is these eye catching Oil Painting style water decals (#16262).
I picked these because they looked so vibrant! It would be a hard look to pull off without using a small mountain of polishes (and more talent than I possess).
What I used:
- *Born Pretty Store Oil Painting style water decals #16262
- Barry M Cotton (white creme)
- Cup of water
- Cleanup brush
I started out by painting my nails with two coats of Cotton, then left it to dry for a while. I cut the decal up into the preprinted nail sized portions. For each nail, I dipped the decal in the water for 15-20 seconds, then slid it off the backing paper onto my nail. I used a cleanup brush and acetone to dissolve the excess decal around my cuticles and nail edges. Finally I very carefully top coated – I know from past experience that topcoat can smear decals badly.
Have to admit, my application wasn’t the best here. I’ve managed to damage the decals in several places – the little white patches you see are the base colour showing through holes. Don’t remember doing it though, so maybe it was with the topcoat.
The biggest issue I had though, was that the printed decals weren’t big enough for my nails – mostly width was the problem, though one was also too short. I ended up with white stripes down the side of some of my nails, that I had to try to fill in with polish. Unfortunately the ones I had handy didn’t match too well.
Normally I would just use something like this as an accent rather than a full mani, and I think it would be perfect for that, as you could choose wide enough sections. Or if you have small nails you shouldn’t have an issue. I do love the way it looked, as long as I didn’t look too closely! Of course, cameras pick up even the tiniest imperfections, honestly it looked pretty good in real life.
