Hello! I know many people plan their manicure, having a picture in their heads and then recreating it on their nails. I occasionally work that way (usually when doing challenge prompts) but mostly I work more organically. Which sounds really poncy written down! But it basically boils down to picking a base colour, adding some interest (dry brush, glitter topper, gradient etc) and then maybe stamping over the top. Sometimes it may all happen in one go, sometimes I’ll add bits a day or so later. Sometimes it works brilliantly, others not so much. I find it fun, I never quite know what I’ll end up with! So, here’s another of my experiments.
What I used:
- Rimmel Pillow Talk (baby blue creme with subtle shimmer)
- Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Court Jest (green & blue flakie topper)
- Color Alike Mars (duochrome stamping polish)
- Bundle Monster & Lucy’s Stash collab stamping plate BM-XL209
- HK Girl Glisten & Glow topcoat
- Liquid latex
- Born Pretty Store Clear stamper
I started off with two coats of Pillow Talk, which is my absolute favourite pale blue polish, and is also almost empty. That’s how much I love it! I then dabbed on Court Jest, which was easier said than done. There is a lot of fairly runny base, which I didn’t want, I just wanted the flakies! In hindsight, using a makeup sponge would have helped.
I picked a light floral image from Bundle Monster BM-XL209 plate, and stamped it using Color Alike Mars which I thought would constrast nicely with the blue base. It’s usually at this point that I use my Ubermat – I’ll test out a few images and stamping polishes to see which I like best with my base. Everything was finished off with a coat of HK Girl.
I really liked the outcome of this one, though I think it looked much better in real life than in my photos. It reminded me of a pattern on a piece of china. The stamping almost glowed, and the flakies really caught the light! I’m not a huge lover of duochromes but as a small detail they can look amazing. I’m wanting more of these Color Alike stamping polishes!
How do you like to work? Do you plan things, or just make it up as you go along?
